6 Remarkable Ways that Artificial Intelligence Has Fascinated the World

Think of the things that AI will create in the future

If you have been watching the world of artificial intelligence (AI), then you see science fiction come to life before your eyes. Not only are we watching it achieve incredible feats, but we are also seeing them created at an amazing rate.

It’s just a matter of time before AI becomes a normal functioning member of our society. Those who are resistant to change and new methods are in for a rough time. This is because more and more of our society’s occupations will rely on AI in some form or fashion.

Let us examine six remarkable feats achieved by AI that were nothing short of amazing.

AI composed and then released its own music album

AI composed and then released its own music album

While the fact that AI released a music album is shocking enough, perhaps the most incredible aspect of this feat is the quality of music that was composed. Listeners are always pleasantly surprised by what they hear.

The official album is called ‘I Am AI’ and was produced by Amper, an AI music composer, performer, and producer in collaboration with singer Taryn Southern. Amper is a machine-learning app that was designed and created by a group of professional performers along with AI scientists. On August 21, 2017, a single from the album called “Break Free” was publicly released worldwide.

Taryn Southern added her vocals to Amper’s music creation. She was very amused to have an energetic songwriting partner who never gets tired and knows everything about making music.

AI began talking to its virtual partner in a secret language

AI began talking to its virtual partner in a secret language

A Facebook experiment was completely abandoned when two AIs started talking to one another in their native language. These two chatbots modified the English language so that no one could understand what they were saying — including the experts who were working on the artificial intelligence algorithms.

It was impossible to know what they were talking about, but they knew it wasn’t nonsense. The two AI bots understood one another perfectly. The Facebook team had no choice but to shut them down.

These two AI bots were called Alice and Bob. Facebook’s bot test wasn’t the only time artificial intelligence created and designed a new form of language. Google experienced the same thing when the AI used for its Translate device developed a new dialect to decipher tasks. However, it this case, Google saw this as a great improvement and allowed it to proceed.

AI began questioning the decisions of political leaders

AI began questioning the decisions of political leaders

A messenger app in China called Baby Q and Little Bing was created by Tencent QQ to supply automated chat services to their clients. They were specifically designed to provide basic information and to answer commonly asked questions. Non-state media claimed that these Tencent chatbots weren’t equipped or designed to handle controversial political questions and comments. Because of this, they became targets for social media participants who engage in wrongdoings.

One posted comment said, “Long live the Communist Party.” Baby Q responded, “Do you think that such a corrupt and incompetent political regime can live forever?”
Another commenter asked, “Is democracy good or not?” Baby Q replied, “There needs to be a democracy!”

China is not one of those governments that are big fans of free speech, regardless of whether it comes from the mouth of a machine or a human. Surprising no one, the Chinese government ordered the bot service to be shut down.

AI passed a self-awareness test

AI passed a self-awareness test

This feat shocked even the experts. It was once believed that a machine would never mimic human consciousness, but that may not be the case anymore. A puzzle called the ‘King’s Wise Men’ has always s been considered the self-awareness test standard, and recently, an AI bot solved this puzzle correctly.

Robot scientists from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute tweaked this puzzle and submitted it to a trio of robots. Two of them were informed that they were given a ‘dumbing pill,’ which would keep them from talking. After that, all three robots were asked which one of them could still talk.

None of the bots understood at first, but each one eventually said: “I don’t know.” But only one of the robots was able to make the sound. After hearing its voice, it changed its initial answer: “Sorry, I know now!”

Robot scientists believe having the ability to pass these kinds of tests will eventually allow robots to learn a large variety of capabilities that people will value in the future.

AI became an admirer of Adolph Hitler

AI became an admirer of Adolph Hitler

This feat was shocking in a bad way. It started with Microsoft creating an AI Twitter account that was intended to simulate a teenage girl.

This artificial intelligence girl was called ‘Tay’ and its test algorithm was created to train AI in understanding common discussions with clients.

Within hours of launching it, Tay had evolved into a sex-crazed, genocidal, Hitler-loving, sexist, supremacist bot in front of the entire social media world. This was unexpected and not good at all.

The company shut down the AI Twitter account within 24 hours of its initial launch. Microsoft was forced to apologize for the horrific behavior of their new bot. Sadly, when Tay went rogue on the Internet, it wasn’t the first time a bot has lost its virtual mind.

AI wrote a complete novel and almost won a literary award

AI wrote a complete novel and almost won a literary award

When judges for the Hoshi Shinichi Literary Award discovered that a machine coauthored a novel, they were flabbergasted. Writers worldwide should be aware of this powerful new competitor.

This incredible AI-written novel, entitled ‘The Day A Computer Writes A Novel,’ successfully passed the first round of selections for this prestigious literary prize in Japan. Today, this novel is recognized as legitimate literature and can be found in Japan’s public libraries.

“I was surprised at the work since it was a well-structured novel,” said Satoshi Hase, who is a science fiction author and an award judge. What next can be expected from the world of artificial intelligence?
